Doctoral and Postdoctoral

Predoctoral and postdoctoral positions in theoretical physics are occationally available in areas related to my reseach activities, which currently are in the area of cold atoms. Interested candidates are encouraged to consult my reseach interest and recent publications before sending an e-mail. The predoctoral students usually get a fellowship of R$1500-2000 per month and should have good academic records. For predoctoral position, the candidate should have good academic record. A knowledge of computing is an added advantage. The academic year starts in March and candidates are expected to apply by November. It is possible to have occational mid-year vacancy in August, for which one should apply in April.


The postdoctoral positions are offered for two years, and can be renewed up to three years subject to satisfactory progress. For postdoctoral position, the candidate should have prior experience in computing and numerical calculation in some problems of atomic, or condensed matter physics and should be interested to collaborate in some problems in cold atoms -- Bose-Einstein condensation, Fermi superfluid etc. Preference will be given to candidates with (computational) experience in nonlinear physics, partial differential equation, or a related field. Good theoretical knowledge of quantum statistical mechanics is desirable. The position can start anytime. The current value of a tax-free fellowship is about R$6000 per month [US$ 1= R$ 2.3] which is a decent income in Sao Paulo. The fellowship also covers a research grant for academic expenses, a passage (one way) to Sao Paulo and an extra months fellowship as moving and settling expenses.
