Personal statement: Passed the school leaving (Higher Secondary) examination in 1962 from Hindu School, Calcutta and joined the B. Sc. program with Honours in Physics at the Presidency College, Calcutta. Finished B. Sc. in 1965 and started the M. Sc. program in (Pure) Physics at the Calcutta University finishing in 1968. Joined the Post-M. Sc. program in Nuclear Physics of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Calcutta, in 1968 finishing in 1969. Joined the Ph. D. program in Physics in 1969 at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA finishing in 1973 at the age of 25.
After a three year post-doc at the Department of Applied Mathematics, University of New South Wales, Australia, during 1973 - 1976, joined the Physics Department of the Federal University of Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil as an Associate Professor, where he continued till 1991.
Since 1991 is a Professor of Physics at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, of the State University of São Paulo (UNESP).

Scholarship/Fellowship Held: National Scholarship of the Government of India during 1962-1968. Post-M.Sc. Fellow of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Calcutta during 1968-1969. Teaching assistant of University of Pennsylvania, USA during 1969-1970. National Science Foundation Fellow and University Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, USA during 1970-1973.
Currently a Research Fellow, CNPq, Brazil.
