The diffusion of scientific results outside the walls of academia is what makes Science, and ourselves scientists, part of the society itself. Many of my colleagues do an excellent job in the complicated task of describing the results of our research, and the complex process which leads us to them, to a public of non-scientists.
I have joined these forces tangentially few years ago, trying to reach outside academia, yet targeting a specific group of people, plastic artists. In 2011, together with several colleagues at the OKC, we collaborated with a group of sculptors, painters, and photographers of the Edsvik Gallery near Stockholm. The goal of it was to see what the interaction between seemingly distant worlds could have produced, especially in terms of artworks, when we had to explain our results in the fields of Cosmology and Astrophysics to people whose methodologies where so different from ours.
This enriching experience had as an outcome a gallery exhibition as well as a series of outreach seminars, at the same venue. You can have an overlook of the exhibition, and of the video material we prepared during the intense program of preparatory seminars and exchanges with the artists. Please don`t hesitate to contact me if you are curious about more details.
